From Chania
to Edinburgh.
Chef Yannis grew up in a taverna kitchen in Chania, on the north-west coast of Crete. His grandmother ran it, then his mother, and by the time he was twelve he was the one folding filo for the spanakopita.
He moved to Edinburgh in 2014 to cook at a hotel kitchen on the Royal Mile. In 2017 he opened Aegean Plate with his wife Eleni — a small, candlelit room serving the food he grew up eating. No reductions, no foams. Just proper Cretan cooking.
We hold an AA Rosette, but the thing we're proudest of is that the regulars who came that first week still come every month — and they bring their kids now too.
