Aegean Plate — mezze table laid for sharing
◆ Edinburgh · Est. 2017 · AA Rosette ◆

Mezze, by candlelight,
every night.

A small Greek dining room in the heart of Edinburgh — twelve mezze dishes for sharing, slow-cooked lamb, a wine list straight from the islands.

◆ Twelve Dishes ◆

Mezze, for the table.

The way they eat in Crete — a dozen small plates, a bottle of something cold, no one in a rush.

◆ Eight Hours, Slow ◆

Lamb kleftiko —
cooked the old way.

Shoulder of lamb, wrapped in parchment with lemon, oregano and garlic, sealed in the oven from breakfast until service. Falls off the bone. Always has, always will.

◆ Private Dining ◆

The family table — eight to twenty.

The back room sits up to twenty around one long oak table. Hand it over to us, sit down, and we'll bring out everything we think you should try.

Birthdays, anniversaries, work dinners — the family table is how Greeks have eaten for a thousand years, and it's how we think you should too.

◆ Our Story ◆

From Chania
to Edinburgh.

Chef Yannis grew up in a taverna kitchen in Chania, on the north-west coast of Crete. His grandmother ran it, then his mother, and by the time he was twelve he was the one folding filo for the spanakopita.

He moved to Edinburgh in 2014 to cook at a hotel kitchen on the Royal Mile. In 2017 he opened Aegean Plate with his wife Eleni — a small, candlelit room serving the food he grew up eating. No reductions, no foams. Just proper Cretan cooking.

We hold an AA Rosette, but the thing we're proudest of is that the regulars who came that first week still come every month — and they bring their kids now too.

◆ Kind Words ◆
“The mezze alone is worth the trip. Yannis has somehow squeezed a Cretan village taverna into a tiny room off the Royal Mile — candles, sharing plates, a glass of Assyrtiko, and three hours that fly by.”
Mhairi C. · Stockbridge · Regular since 2018
