THREE GENERATIONS.
ONE RECIPE.
Albert Hartley opened the shop on Castle Road in 1972 — a tiled front, a single fryer, and a queue down the pavement by Friday teatime. He'd been a deckhand on the Scarborough trawlers before that, which is why the fish has always come straight off the boats and never a day older.
Now it's his grandson Joe behind the counter, with Albert's daughter Sue still on the till most days. Same recipe in the batter, same Maris Pipers, same beef dripping. We've had three coats of paint and a new fryer in 2018. That's about it.
We're MSC certified, recognised by The Times Best Chippies guide in 2023, and we still close on Mondays so Sue can do the books.
