Snug double, view to the church

Cotswold stone walls, twelve ales on tap, a log fire from October, and six rooms upstairs for when the second pudding seems sensible.
Hand-pulled from the cellar. Four regulars from local breweries plus eight rotating taps — usually whatever the landlord's tasted lately and liked.
Six rooms above the pub, all individually decorated. Cotswold-stone walls, deep baths, decent coffee, and a bowl of water for the dog. Breakfast cooked to order, served eight until ten.

The Crown & Anchor has stood on the high street in Burford since 1824 — drovers' pub first, coaching inn second, and these days a proper village local that still does Sunday lunch the way it ought to be done.
Tom took over in 2009 with his wife Annie. They've kept the log fire, mended the roof, opened a small kitchen garden, and resisted every offer to put a television in. Walkers, locals, dogs and the occasional famous face — all equally welcome.
“If there's a better Sunday roast in the Cotswolds, I've not found it. The fire, the dog bowl by the door, Tom remembering your usual — this is the village pub everyone wishes was theirs.”
No need to book the bar — pull up a stool. Tables in the dining room and garden are best reserved, especially Sundays. Give us a ring or drop a line.
