Long-term financial planning. The opposite of finfluencer advice.

Crown Wealth Advisory is an independent firm of Chartered Financial Planners based in Tunbridge Wells. We work with a small number of families and business owners across Kent and the South-East, building plans that are designed to outlast market noise, political cycles, and the latest investment fashion.

01 — Principles

Four commitments that shape every plan we write.

i.

Fee-only, no commission

We are paid by you, not by product providers. Every recommendation we make is one we would make for our own family.

ii.

Independent, not tied

We are not aligned to any provider, platform or fund house. The whole of market is open to us, and we use it.

iii.

Chartered, not merely qualified

Chartered Financial Planner is the highest credential in our profession. It is held by under one in ten advisers practising in the UK.

iv.

Patient, not opportunistic

We measure success in decades, not quarters. We will not call you about a hot tip. We will call you about a Will review.

02 — Services

Five quiet specialisms.

We do not advise on equity release, structured products, mini-bonds, crypto, or any investment whose principal feature is its commission. The list below is deliberately short. The work behind each line is not.

I.

Retirement Planning

Cashflow modelling thirty years out. We answer the only question that matters — will you run out, and if so, when. Then we build the plan that ensures you do not.

II.

Investment Portfolio Management

Globally diversified portfolios, evidence-based, low-cost. We do not chase last year’s winners, and we do not pretend to time markets. Discretionary or advisory mandates.

III.

Inheritance Tax Planning

Lifetime gifting, trusts, business relief, and the difficult conversations most families would rather not have. Done thoughtfully, IHT is a problem that can be largely solved.

IV.

Pension Drawdown

Defined benefit transfers, SIPP drawdown strategies, annuity comparisons. Independent advice from someone with no axe to grind on which provider you choose.

V.

Junior ISAs & Family Trusts

Education planning, generational wealth transfer, and the structures that quietly hand the next generation a head start without spoiling them.

03 — Who We Advise

We work with around seventy families.

That number is deliberate. It is large enough to keep the practice viable and small enough that we know each client’s circumstances without consulting a database. We are selective about whom we take on, and we are honest when we are not the right firm. Three groups make up most of our work.

01

Retired Professionals

Doctors, solicitors and senior public-sector clients arriving at retirement with a defined benefit pension, an ISA portfolio, and the question — is it enough.

02

Late-Career Executives

Five to ten years from stopping. Substantial pension pots, share schemes vesting, and the need to consolidate before drawdown begins.

03

Business Owners Selling

Founders approaching an exit. Pre-sale tax planning, deferred consideration structuring, and where the proceeds sit when the cheque clears.

04 — Fees

Transparent. Disclosed up front.

We accept no commission, no trail, no introducer fees, and no soft-dollar arrangements with platforms. Our entire income is the fees on this page, paid by clients, and disclosed in writing before any work begins.

James Ashworth, Chartered Financial Planner
05 — The Founder

James Ashworth, Chartered Financial Planner.

James founded Crown Wealth Advisory in 1994 after eleven years at one of the larger national firms, where he grew uneasy with the volume of advice being produced by people he would not have trusted with his own pension.

He is a Chartered Financial Planner, a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society, and a Member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. He writes occasionally for the FT Adviser and has been quoted in the Times Money section on the question of pension drawdown sustainability.

Outside of work, he is a trustee of two charitable trusts in Kent, a churchwarden, and a lifelong member of the Royal Tunbridge Wells Golf Club, where he is reliably outplayed by his daughter.

From a long-standing client
“James has been our adviser for nineteen years. In that time he has talked us out of two property purchases, three investment fads, and one ill-advised early retirement. We are considerably better off for having listened to him, and considerably less worried.”
