
From Mexico City
to Shoreditch.
Chef Mateo grew up in Coyoacán cooking with his grandmother. He moved to London in 2014, worked his way through a few decent kitchens, then opened El Tigre in 2018 with one rule — no Tex-Mex, no shortcuts.
Six years later we're still here, still pressing tortillas by hand, and the queues at the weekend say we're doing something right. TimeOut called us “Best New Mexican” in 2023 and we haven't shut up about it since.
