Mahogany Bow-Front Chest
Original brass swan-neck handles, oxidised oak linings, untouched colour.

Magpie Antiques has traded from the same beam-and-plaster shopfront in Long Melford since 1998. Three rooms over two floors, every piece bought by us, every piece checked, dated and described properly before it goes on the floor.
We don't do dealer stickers, painted reproductions, or anything pretending to be older than it is. If a piece has been restored, we say so. If it's a marriage, we say so. If the silver is plate not solid, the ticket says plate. It's the only way to run an antique shop, in our view.
LAPADA members since 2004. Independently valued for insurance, probate and family division. Honest prices for honest pieces — and we'd genuinely rather sell you nothing than the wrong thing.

Edward opened Magpie in 1998 after fifteen years at Christie's South Kensington. The shop was a tea room before that, and the original Georgian counter is still in use — now serving as the writing desk where the receipts get written by hand.
He's joined on Saturdays by his daughter Anna, who runs the jewellery side, and most days by Hector, the shop's third whippet in residence. The kettle is on most mornings by ten past nine, and you're always welcome to come in for a look without buying anything at all.

“Edward valued my mother's silver flatware honestly when two London dealers had tried to lowball us. He paid a fair price the same week, and wrote me a proper inventory for the rest of her estate. Couldn't ask for more.”
